About Forest Action Management
Action Forest Management Ltd is a multi-skilled forestry business based in Richmond providing professional forestry, fire and rural land management and contracting services. Formed in 2005, it is owned and managed by Robin Thompson and employs two fulltime supporting operational supervisors. These three collectively have considerable skills and experience in the forestry industry. AFM also employees three part time staff for financial administration, reception duties and technical support.
As well as engaging and managing heavy machinery or aerial application sub-contractors for their specialist tasks, AFM operates it’s own four contracting crews under the name Action Forest Services Ltd. (AFS) providing many of AFM’s operational services.
In this way AFM can plan, implement and manage any aspect of a forest operation, from providing quality assured contract services only through to full management of a forest as an investment in wood and carbon.
AFM is committed to minimising the impact of its operations on the environment. This commitment extends from minimising office power use through to training staff in environmental awareness. All our crew foremen hold Growsafe accreditation for application of chemicals where this is a necessary part of forest establishment. All crew members and Operations supervisors hold NZQA 17772 for knowledge of environmental requirements, with new crew members aiming to achieve this qualification in the first 4 months of employment.
Health and Safety
AFM achieved tertiary accreditation at it’s first ACC audit in 2006 and has maintained this high standard ever since. ACC tertiary accreditation is only awarded to those organisations that actively demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement Health and Safety in all aspects of their operation. AFM has retained its accreditation because a culture of working safely is embedded in all areas of the business.
AFM staff and sub-contractors beat over 200 other silvicultural workers to take the top 3 places in the inaugural TopSpot Silvicultural awards in 2005 and again scored highly in 2006. (TopSpot has not been open to Silviculture crews since.)
AFM was selected as a finalist in the 2007 Nelson Chamber of Commerce business awards for both the medium business award and the primary manufacturing award.
